About the Troop
Boy Scouts of America Troop #347 was founded in 1939
when a need for a local Boy Scout troop in the Village of Tontogany was realized. Over the years, Troop
#347 has grown in membership, leadership and accomplishment. Today, the
Troop meets every
Monday night (with the exception of the first Monday of every month) at
7:00 PM, September through July.
We currently meet at the Otsego Park Shelter House, located on the
ground of the scenic Otsego Park, run by the Wood County Park District,
on the corner of State Route 235 and State Route 65. Our camping activities
during these months include: a spring, fall and winter district camporees;
a week-long summer camp held at area Scout camps or at a Troop-run
location; a father-son canoe trip; Camp Alaska winter survival
experience and many other exciting and adventurous
activities. The Troop also plans high adventure activities every
other summer as an alternative to summer camp for older youth.
Troop members have been to both Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and
to the Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys. The Troop also assists the local community by offering a village
recycling program and other community service activities, through both
volunteered work and Eagle Scout service projects. We also perform
service activities for the Wood County Park District and hold activities with
our chartering organization, the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. Troop #347 is a proud member of Wood District, Erie Shores Council, Boy Scouts
of America. Our hope is that we can provide a positive experience
of leadership, outdoors and moral skills to the young men of tomorrow.
All boys ages 11 (or in 5th grade) to 17 are welcome to join. If you or your child is interested in joining Boy Scouts and would like to
know more about the troop and what we do please e-mail any of the Scoutmasters
here. |
